Winter holiday cards made!

I actually made our Christmas cards on Sunday!
That would be Sunday, October 13!!!

Why so early?
I really have no idea but the design came together really quickly,
so I  just went for it and made the cards while Michael
was on the computer. I need the main computer to do
schoolwork but never mind a delay in schoolwork time. ;-)

Called {Oh Christmas Tree}. It is a fun one!

It arrived on Saturday, October 12. I saw this snowflake ornament design and
immediately fell in love with it and had the embossing idea!
I wanted to use some neon, and chose pink.

For me, pink always goes along with green for some reason. ;-)
So I chose green paper and the "winter greetings" sentiment from the kit.
Saturday night I made these two prototypes.

The final design ended up being layered on white cardstock because the green cardstock was
a bit thin. I have 20 cards made. I may need some additional cards for our holiday list,
but this design is definitely easy to make more of quickly!

It feels nice to have a holiday project completed...soooo early!

I haven't been this ahead of the game in awhile. lol

project life Week 40

There will also be an insert because there are at least 3 more photos I want to add for the week. :-)

I wish I were really this caught up with project life but this is only the 3rd full week completed since Week 9. I did learn a lot from the Big Pictures Classes Project Life Lessons that I won a seat in last month. I wasn't organized enough to participate in it even though it started during my two week break from school. I have watched the videos though. I love all the advice and great inspiration from Annette Haring, Elise Blaha Cripe, and Megan Anderson

The things I learned that I think will help me stay caught up with Project Life and have fun!

1. Write down the stories, especially when there won't be a photo to go with it.
2. Even one word on a photo is journaling and that is okay.
3. Don't try to include everything that happened in a week.

I started scrapbooking with Project Life because of how easy it is but I let it get complicated. All the PL kits, embellishments, and problems with printing photos has made it difficult to focus on just the basic journaling. Preserving memories...important moments and the everyday. My everyday is pretty quiet, but the dogs always provide some type of entertainment, or a cute photo or two...or twenty...each day. ;-)

No Shopping October

Could I have possibly picked a worst month for No Shopping?! LOL

It was random. Something I felt I needed to do to get ready for the holiday season, buying and making gifts. However, I forgot about World Cardmaking Day on Oct. 5 (first Saturday in October), and all the sales that go along with it. It really was my favorite time to buy things last year - so many awesome deals. Oh well! I've committed to the No Shopping, and so that is the way it has to be. I will do my best to participate in some World Cardmaking Day blog hops and contests, so I need to get my craft studio ready tonight!

I call it No Shopping October (and I did this in June as well) because it is not a No Spending month. I get monthly subscriptions - all related to papercrafting - so I will certainly be spending this month. Also, Michael is free to spend as much on me as he wants. He is the one that gets the fabulous deals locally, so I give him free rein to continue to spoil me there. See my Instagram feed for all his great finds! ;-)

Here is a list of my subscriptions:

1. Unity Stamp Company Stamp of the Week (so I get 4 a month)
2. Unity Stamp Company Kit of the Month
3. Unity Stamp Company S.M.A.K. (kit)
4. Studio Calico Card Kit
5. Studio Calico Project Life Kit
6. Studio Calico Scrapbook Kit
7. Simon Says Stamp Card Kit
8. The Stamps of Life (stamp set only)
9. Ohdeermekit.com (by Freckled Fawn)
10. Silhouette Online

Yeah, way too many subs. LOL Not sure why I bother to buy anything else each month.

Plenty of deliveries to keep me busy this month, and probably for a No Shopping November.

1-9 have not even delivered yet for October (well, the Simon Says Stamp Card Kit will be the November one delivered toward the end of the month). I have $150+ in credit to spend at Silhouette Online - maybe a little less since I placed a small order earlier this week. I also purchased some Studio Calico digital stamps and cuts during the last reveal at the end of September. I have plenty of new supplies from September, August, July, June, May, and even before that I haven't even played with. :/ I always say I'm not going to be a hoarder, but if I don't use these goodies when I get them, that is all I am being. LOL

So instead of focusing on October as a No Shopping month, I will focus on it as a Use My Stash month! :-)

Below is another card I made with the October Simon Says Stamp Card Kit. Such an awesome kit!

This card has some edge distressing that wasn't originally planned but needed to help mask the stamp ink that transferred from the edge of my acrylic blocks when I was doing the tree leaf stamping. The tree leaves are made using the one large leaf stamp, and the single leaf stamp to fill in coverage. I originally had one large circle with the cloud paper, but did three to cover up more of the ink marks. I LOVE how the squirrel, nut, and heart came out - especially the squirrel. I used two different colors of Distress Marker on the squirrel/acorn stamp (one piece) and it was so fun to see the depth the distressed look gave the squirrel, without much effort! Other attempts to stamp the squirrel with stamp ink made it look pretty flat but the distress marker almost makes it look fuzzy.

The sentiment on the flag from the Lawn Fawn Stitched Journaling Card Die is also placed to cover up ink marks. Overall though, I think it came out great!
Here is a fun tidbit! I was searching online today and discovered the Nichol Magouirk blog! Looks like I used a couple of similar techniques for this same kit, without realizing it...but I wanted to give credit for the ideas since hers came before mine. (The stitched Lawn Fawn paper banners, and using Distress Marker on the squirrel, techniques which I used on two different cards.) She has lots of great stuff on her blog, so check it out.

How many cards will you make with the October Simon Says Stamp Card Kit?

I have made 6 cards so far with this awesome kit!!

It was packed full of goodies and I will probably get another 6 cards out of it...at least! Plus there will be some leftover goodies for PL or other projects.

Daily...

I want to blog daily. I post online daily...often multiple times a day via Instagram. That feeds to Twitter, and Twitter feeds to Facebook, but I never seem to find time to blog. I have multiple blogs...for general craftiness, doll craftiness, and paper craftiness (plus a couple of others that don't need daily updates). I should consolidate. :-)

For now though I am going to attempt to update the three blogs mentioned above daily. Even it if is just a photo. It might almost always be just a photo but that is okay. My blogs need some love and attention. They are a place to write more than 140 characters, or just short captions under pics, so I should take advantage of that. I have some stories for the crafty adventures and sometimes they are really funny! ;-)

So here is today's post.

YOU will do amazing things!

A lot of my card designs are randomly made without a recipient in mind. This one is going to a special young lady who just started college. :-)

I used the YOU 3x4 stamp set from Simon Says Stamp, the Lawn Fawn Stitched Journaling Card die, and paper from Fancy Pants Designs 6x6 Trendsetter pad. The burlap letters are by Little Yellow Bicycle. I used Staz On ink in Midnight Blue. The cardstock base is 12x12 kraft that I had in my stash. I rounded the corners on the base paper with a Fiskars squeeze punch corner rounder.

Deerest...

I placed a Sizzix order this week to take advantage of their clearance sale on letterpress plates and came across a cute embossing folder set that I had to have! The set is Dearly & Frost. I thought it would be a nice complement to the {deer to me} stamp set by my little shoebox, LLC & Unity Stamp Company.

I colored the deer stamps with Spectrum Noir markers and the body coloring is a bit too dark but overall I am really pleased with how they came out...after I fixed a few other minor things (like making the spots white). ;-)

Here is a photo of the finished card and a photo before the tweaks, plus a photo of some of the supplies used.

The tweaks were: making the spots white, making the tail tan (I just colored over the Martha Stewart Carrara marble glitter glue I had used to give the tail dimension), and coloring over the pink on the ears with tan.

Thanks for stopping by!

Safe Travels

My Simon Says Stamp September card kit arrived last week and I have made two cards with it so far. My fave is this one using the Safe Travels sentiment from the SSS Life is a Journey set. There was no intended recipient so I put a random colorful bike and a car on this card. It would be a cute card for a cyclist doing some traveling.

The paper is My Mind's Eye's Chalk Studio Collection and I used a Sakura gel pen to create the lines. I colored the Studio Calico wood veneer bike with Spectrum Noir markers. My husband, an avid cyclist loved the coloring. I used an old metallic silver pigment ink for the car. I place two tiny clear rhinestones in the holes for headlights.

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you safe travels!

Unity SOTW...chocolate!

Just love the latest Unity Stamp of the Week! I knew what I wanted to do with the chocolate bar stamp almost from the moment I saw it but figuring out the card base proved a little tricky.

I wanted to start moving away from the traditional cards I usually make. I like them because the bases are easy to measure and cut, getting two card bases from each 8.5" x 11" piece of card stock but it isn't "papercraft adventures" without the adventures.

Adventure for me these days is trying to figure out where To store my newest craft supply or finding the ones I need for a project. I am neatly disorganized. ;) At least that is what I call it. A purge of the craft studio is in order, AND not buying so much be stuff. No Shopping August is just a week away! (I will leave that for a different post.)

Back to chocolate, which BTW we should never ignore. ;) Trader Joe's has some yummy varieties of chocolate. Mmmm!!!

Here are two cards:

I was trying a different photo background option but went back to the white box. I need to create a new, larger photo box or maybe I need to only take photos at night. Anyway...hope you like the cards! :)

Not the greatest photo but here are most of the supplies I used on the two cards. Plus some brown scrap paper.

No Shopping June...a gift experiment

My husband, Michael, is quite difficult to buy for.

He is a master bargain shopper, and it doesn't hurt that he works across the street from a massive shopping center! He is always coming home with things from his convenient shopping trips to Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Marshall's, Ross, and Kohl's. It is difficult to compete with that since I would have to do a lot of running around on our side of town to hit all those stores as often as he does but it is one-stop shopping for him. LOL

He has specialized needs for his hobby (cycling) that are better left to his choosing. Trust me...I have tried! ;) His birthday is June 9 and last year I got him a pair of Nike sunglasses he loves (and wears daily) and JBL speakers for the desktop (that he also loves). This year I was completely at a loss! :/ So many options but what would he REALLY want?!!

So...I crazily offered him something he has been asking for for many years now. ;) A month of NO shopping...on my part at least. I pay for most of my own goodies and am a relatively good bargain shopper myself, but craft goodies are my weakness and they don't always come cheap. ;-) I suppose we both thought I had a shopping addiction.

I get several monthly stamp and craft subscriptions, even Stamp of the Week from Unity Stamp Company, so I knew I would not be deprived of at least some new craft goodies for the entire month. :) Still...the first week was hard. I forgot about yearly warehouse sales and 'cleaning out stock before inventory' sales. :( I have missed out on some good stuff...and much of it won't be available ever again. Ah well...not like I don't have a craft ROOM filled to the brim with enough supplies to last a lifetime...almost.

A view of my craftroom studio from the doorway. The other walls have tall shelves packed with goodies! lol

So I am now on my 14th day of no shopping. A week was a huge milestone. Heck, three days was a HUGE milestone. If I get desperate I have a gift card for Joann's and $12 in credit to spend on Amazon.

I can also say I will not be able to do this for more than one month. lol

These two weeks have taught me a lot already though. Things I've learned:

1. Stock up on printer ink before a month of 'no shopping'.
2. I have more willpower than I ever suspected.
3. I am not addicted to shopping but I am addicted to happy mail!
4. I LOVE cardmaking...and miss doing it more often.
5. I can be more creative with my current supplies if I'm not always thinking what to create with the new goodies that are on the way!
6. No shopping means I have more time for blogging! ;-)

There were some surprise craft goodies from Michael on the 11th as a gift for our 23rd 'being together' anniversary. Do you and your special someone celebrate multiple anniversaries?? Our wedding anniversary is in February. I might have done that on purpose to get extra gifts in addition to Valentine's Day (just kidding...our wedding was spur of the moment...less than a week of planning total).

 The anniversary presents from Michael.
 $1.49 THICKERS!!! ;-)

Here are the other goodies I have gotten so far - without having to shop - during my experiment at No Shopping June! ;)

These are my monthly subscription kits (Card, Project Life, and Scrapbook) plus other miscellaneous items purchased during the last week of May at Studio Calico! So much AWESOME!!!!

Unity Stamp of the Week and JUNE SMAK kit.

Two more weeks to go! ;-)

Thank goodness for lots of support on Instagram!!!! Thank you my crafty friends!

Happy Creating!
